Protecting those who protect

ASP training is sought after by agencies around the world and is the gold standard on the integrated use of batons, restraints, and flashlights.

ASP tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced, readily maintained, and provide techniques that work 90% of the time on 90% of subjects (recognising that some subjects may require higher levels of force).

CERT proudly delivers authorised ASP Basic Certification (ABC) and with our extensive industry connections we can access the very limited international cohort of ASP Trainers with the ASP Trainer Certification (ATC) qualification – the highest level within the ASP system.   With these industry connections CERT can deliver the ASP Instructor Certification (AIC) course.

ASP Basic Certification (ABC)

This is a two-day (16-hour) field-level certification program designed to acquaint participants with the operational use of ASP Tactical Baton, Tactical Restraints and Performance Flashlights. Certification acknowledges that the individual officer met a competency-based standard of knowledge and performance.

You will be trained in the operational use of the ASP tactical products with a focus on:

  • Portation (Carrying)
  • Presentation (Drawing)
  • Striking Techniques
  • Restraint Application

ASP Instructor Certification (AIC)

This is a three-day (32-hour) advanced certification program designed to acquaint participants with operational use of the ASP Tactical Baton, Tactical Restraints and Performance Flashlights and train them to conduct ASP Basic Certification (ABC) Programs. AIC Training includes all information and techniques provided in the ABC Program, with the addition of ASP Instructional techniques. Successful completion of the AIC Program certifies that the individual officer has met a competency-based standard of knowledge, has mastered performance skills, and has the ability to instruct ABC classes.

Common to all ASP training is:

  • Control theory – relevant legislation, force continuum, force options, documentation
  • Body mechanics – principles of movement, 7 components of power
  • Training format – floor dynamics & warm up, sequences, drill formations, verbalisation, stance, safe separation, stabilisation & restraint
